From ISMAIL OMIPIDAN, Kaduna
Former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Alfa Belgore, has sensationally declared that by the end of 2013, Nigerians will see the end of Boko Haram.
This is even as he called on Nigeria’s past leaders to come together to confront headlong the security challenge in the country, by providing direction for the people to follow, through the promotion of peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
Belgore spoke in Kaduna yesterday as the chairman of a town hall meeting organised by CITAR-NGO, where Governor Gabriel Suswam delivered the keynote address on “Our Diversity, Our Strength.” The former CJN, who was optimistic that Nigeria would rise again, further submitted that in 15 years to come, Nigeria would get to where it ought to be 40 years ago.
“Five days before the emir of Kano was attacked, I was in Kano where I had gone to see the emir. We discussed the security situation in the country. He also appreciated the situation. By the time I returned to Abuja, I met someone who said some traditional rulers were to be attacked.
And a day after that discussion, the emir of Kano was attacked. “From the sophisticated weapons in the hands of these terrorists, it is clear that they are being sponsored from outside by those who don’t want Nigeria to be. But we will overcome them.
We are stronger than them and their end will soon be seen. “By the end of this year, substantially, we shall see their end. These people are not Muslims. The Qur’an says you shall not kill. And death sentence can only be passed by a competent court.
“In spite of everything, I am optimistic that in 15 years time, we shall get to where we are supposed to be 40 years ago. Those people behind the attack in Nigeria tried it in Mali; it did not work. From Mali, they sent people to come and fight here in Nigeria; it will not work here too.
They will not succeed. We shall see their end by the end of this year. But past leaders must come together to confront the security challenge. They must provide direction for the people through the promotion of peaceful coexistence. Brazil, Nigeria and Congo, all have the potentials to be developed countries but forces from outside will not allow it,” the ex-CJN added.
