Peacemaker, 27, shot dead by friend in Edo

There was confusion at Upper Uwa and Amadasun Street, Benin, on Sunday when the head of a vigilance group, Lucky (surname withheld), reportedly shot dead, his friend Amaosa Otabor.
Amaosa, 27, was said to be making peace between one Osasu who had a heated argument with Lucky when the head of the Vigilance group shot him on the chest. He was said to have died instantly.
According to eyewitnesses account, the incident occurred at the residence of Lucky on Sunday evening.
A cousin to the victim, Felix Ekhator said they were informed about the incident at about 7:30pm but before they got there, victim corpse had been taken to the mortuary.
He said they had repeatedly informed the police about activities of the suspect, but that the police insisted on giving license to the vigilance group led by the suspect.
Incensed by the killing, friends of the late Amaosa reacted by setting the house of the suspect’s father ablaze along with a vehicle and a motorcycle parked in their compound.
When contacted, Edo State Police Command Spokesman, Moses Eguaveon (DSP) confirmed the incident and said investigation had commenced, adding that the long arm of the law would soon catch up with the culprit.
